In this article, we will try to know fully what is gender. What is the importance of gender in English grammar?

There are many things around us, some of which are living and some are non-living.

Gender is the part of a noun that tells the things around us that they belong to which category? Many times the things around us come in some male  and some female caste which  tells us.

I will try my best to include every concept in this article, so that you can understand every concept easily and you do not have any problem related this topic.

what is gender ? 

Gender is a specific form of noun class system in which the division of noun classes forms an agreement system with another aspect of the language, such as adjectives, articles, pronouns, or verbs. Whereas some authors use the term “grammatical gender” as a synonym of “noun class”, others use different definitions for each; many authors prefer “noun classes” when none of the inflections in a language relate to sex.

Definition :

The word gender is derived from the Latin word genus which means large group.

  1. Gender is a part of the noun that makes sense of both the female caste or the male race or the female caste and the male caste or makes sense of lifeless things.
  2. Gender” is more difficult to define, but it can refer to the role of a male or female in society, known as a gender role, or an individual’s concept of themselves, or gender identity.

Types :

Here, we are going to tell you about types of gender. In this section we are classified the gender.

  1. Masculine  (पुल्लिंग)

  2. Feminine   (स्त्रीलिंग)

  3. Common   (उभयलिंग)

  4. Neuter  (नपुंसक लिंग)

Masculine: The Nouns are refer to male persons or animals called the  Masculine Gender. Example: boy, man, brother, father, king, nephew, dog, etc.  (पुल्लिंग- ऐसे संज्ञा जो पुरुष व्यक्ति या जानवर का बोध कराते हैं उन्हें हम पुल्लिंग कहते हैं।) उदाहरण- लड़का, आदमी, भाई, पिता, राजा, भतीजा, इत्यादि।

2. Feminine : The Nouns are refer to female persons or animals called the Feminine Examplegirl, woman, sister, mother, queen, niece etc.
(स्त्रीलिंग- ऐसी संज्ञा जो किसी स्त्री व्यक्ति या जानवर का बोध कराते हैं उन्हें स्त्रीलिंग कहते हैं।
उदाहरण- औरत, बहन, माता, रानी, भतीजी, इत्यादि।)

3. Common : The Nouns are refer to both males and females creature called the Common Example: baby, child, parent, teacher, pupil, student, person, doctor, cousin, friend neighbour, bird etc. (उभयलिंग– ऐसे संज्ञा जो पुरुष तथा स्त्री दोनों का बोध कराते हैं उन्हें उभयलिंग कहते हैं| जैसे– शिशु, बच्चा, माता, पिता, अध्यापक, शिष्य, विद्यार्थी व्यक्ति, डॉक्टर, चचेरा, पड़ोसी, पक्षी, इत्यादि।)
4. Neuter : The Nouns are refer to non-living things, called  Neuter Gender
The word Neuter means neither, that is neither male nor female.
Example: book, pen, chair, car, wood, gold, school, etc.
(नपुंसक लिंग- ऐसे संज्ञा जो किसी निर्जीव का बोध कराते हैं उन्हें नपुंसक लिंग कहते है।
जैसे- किताब, पेन, कुर्सी, कार, लकड़ी, सोना, विद्यालय, इत्यादि।)
Rules For changing masculine to feminine ⌈Masculine ( पुल्लिग ) से Feminine ( स्त्रीलिंग ) बनाना )⌉

Rule1: कुछ masculine noun को feminine noun में बदलने के लिए, masculine noun के पूरे रूप को बदलना पड़ता है | 
Examples:

Masculine (पुल्लिंग) Feminine (स्त्रीलिंग )
1.Brother Sister
2. Boy Girl
3. Bull Cow
4. Cock Hen
5. Dog Bitch

Rule2: कुछ Masculine noun को feminine noun में बदलने के लिए masculine noun के अंत में ess , ss या ine जोड़ा जाता हैं |
Examples:

1. Lion Lioness
2. Poet Poetess
3. Prince Princess
4. Hero Heroine

Rule3: यदि Masculine gender के अंतिम शब्द Vowel (a,e,i,o,u) हो तो उसे feminine gender में बदलने के लिए masculine gender के vowel को हटाकर ess जोड़ दिया जाता है |

Rule 4. कई बार masculine noun को feminine बदलने के लिए masculine noun के पहले या बाद में किसी शब्द को जोड़कर feminine gender बनाया जाता है |
